Hong Kong Metropolitan University launches Hong Kong’s first “Master of Science in Adaptive Sports (MSCASF) / Postgraduate Diploma in Adaptive Sports (PDASF)” programme

In collaboration with the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee, the programme aims to cultivate cross-disciplinary professionals to address the growing needs in the development of adaptive sports

To meet the increasing local and international demand for professionals in adaptive sports, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has officially launched Hong Kong’s first Master of Science in Adaptive Sports (MSCASF) / Postgraduate Diploma in Adaptive Sports (PDASF) programme. The programme is designed to equip students with professional knowledge, practical skills, and a multidisciplinary perspective, bringing new momentum to the promotion and long-term development of adaptive sports in Hong Kong.

As the status of para sports continues to rise on the international stage, there is a growing need for specialists with knowledge in healthcare, education, and sports science. Tailored for professionals in these sectors, the programme helps students master the core skills required to design, implement, and evaluate adaptive sports programmes, thereby supporting the full participation of persons with disabilities—from community recreational activities to elite sports.

The China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee (HKPC) has long been committed to promoting sports participation among persons with disabilities. It strongly supports HKMU’s launch of this specialised programme and hopes that, through the training of professional talent, the quality of local adaptive sports services can be further enhanced, fostering greater social inclusion. Through collaboration between the industry and academia, students will gain an in-depth understanding of international standards and practical operations in para sports, including classification systems and athletes' physical and mental health management.

Dr Doris CHONG Yin-kei, Head of Physiotherapy from the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at HKMU stated:
“The Master of Science in Adaptive Sports programme marks an important milestone in the professionalisation of health sciences at HKMU. Through structured training, we aim to enable professionals to more professionally and effectively promote the physical and mental well-being of persons with disabilities in their respective roles, and to cultivate talent in Hong Kong that can keep pace with the international development of adaptive sports.”

The Master of Science in Adaptive Sports is now included under the Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies (FTSS). Successful eligible local applicants may receive up to HK$100,000 in tuition subsidy, applicable to both full-time and part-time modes of study. Professionals in healthcare, education, and sports who are interested in developing their careers in the field of adaptive sports are welcome to apply.
