Outreach Programme

Introduction

The China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee is committed to providing training in Paralympic Sports and Para-sports to our target groups. Our outreach programme is designed to be delivered in partnership with National Sports Association and Sports Organisations. The services are open to people with disabilities and stakeholders with special needs, without limitation to any specific group.

We aim to connect coaches with National Sports Associations/Sports Organisations to promote Paralympic Sports and Para-sports specifically designed for persons with disabilities. This enables participants to experience and develop a habit of regular physical activity. In the long run, this may contribute to alleviating healthcare expenditure for the HKSAR Government. Through this outreach programme, we also actively engage different community segments, including special schools and day activity centres, to reach persons with various types of disabilities.

We are dedicated to working collaboratively with various National Sports Associations/Sports Organisations and special schools. Through this initiative, we seek to identify potential athletes within the community and encourage them to participate in structured, long-term Para sports training, ultimately leading them towards elite athlete development.

Programme Details

During the 2025–2026 “Outreach Programme,” HKPC partnered with Sailability Hong Kong Limited to organise Para-sailing experience activities for students from SAHK Ko Fook Iu Memorial School, SAHK Jockey Club Elaine Field School, CCC Kei Shun Special School and Mary Rose School. The activities have been successfully launched and are conducted at Hebe Haven Yacht Club, providing students with a well-equipped and safe water sports environment.

The programme targets students from the above-mentioned schools and focuses on sailing experience activities. It aims to enable students to gain basic knowledge of Para-sailing principles, operational skills, and water safety through hands-on participation in a safe and well-supported environment. The activity design is adapted to accommodate students’ diverse abilities and needs, allowing them to participate progressively with appropriate professional support, thereby enhancing their learning motivation and level of engagement.

Throughout the activities, professional instructors from Sailability Hong Kong Limited provide on-site guidance, supported by assistant coaches and support staffs. Instruction is delivered in one-to-one or small-group formats to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the activities. The instructors also adjust the teaching pace and content flexibly according to students’ physical conditions and individual abilities, enabling them to participate and complete the activities within their own capacity.

Through this sailing experience programme, students not only have opportunities to interact with experienced instructors but also build self-confidence, develop teamwork and communication skills, and deepen their interest in and understanding of water sports. Overall, the programme contributes to the promotion of inclusive sports, broadens students’ opportunities to participate in physical activities, and supports the development of their diverse abilities.

Outreach Programme – Tenpin Bowling for Persons with Physical and Visual Impairments

In partnership with the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, the Committee delivered a community outreach programme from October to November 2025. The aim was to promote inclusion through sports and offer students of varying abilities the chance to enjoy and explore the sport of bowling.

The activity was structured into five sessions, each lasting two hours, with 30 lanes used per session (two students per lane). The programme was jointly coordinated with two special schools.

Participants included students from the Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired and the Hong Kong Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre, engaging in both visually impaired and physically impaired bowling experiences. Members of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Representative Team and their coaching staff provided on-site instruction. As the team was preparing for the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in mid-November, the event also served as a rare opportunity for students to interact with elite athletes and experience the competitive atmosphere.
