Bowling became an event in the 2006 Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled, and the game was played on an indoor bowling alley.

Bowling is suitable for visually impaired, paralyzed and amputee athletes. Visually impaired bowlers may be assisted by a coach or instructor during the game. Blind people can also use auxiliary tools to help them find the right angle to serve.

Para Tenpin Bowling is governed by the International Bowling Federation (IBF).
