Para snooker is an adapted version of snooker for players with disabilities,. It was a featured sport in the first Paralympic Games in 1960 and remained until 1988. It is now actively played in tournaments categorized by ability, with international competitions.
Para snooker opens to people with a wide-range of disabilities including wheelchair users and people with ambulant, intellectual and sensory disabilities. The classification system includes up to 36 unique classification profiles, grouped into particular categories for the purpose of running tournaments.
The sport classes for Para snooker are as follow.
Wheelchair – Groups 1& 2
Ambulant – Groups 3-5
Intellectual – Group 6
Visual – Group 7
Deaf- Group 8
Para Snooker is governed by World Disability Billiards And Snooker (WDBS). World Disability Billiards and Snooker does not have National Members category, but have recognized Hong Kong Phab Snooker Association as the sole body supporting snooker players with disabilities in Hong Kong China.
